On our second day in Las Vegas, we hit happy hour at Coyote Ugly in New York New York.
Normally not one to seek out conversation with strangers, I began talking with the bouncer. Given that we were the first ones in the door when they opened, it was slow at first.
When he heard we were from Texas Tech, he told us that the dancer currently on stage (giving free shots to all female patrons) was from Lubbock. Small world.
She then mocked us and Lubbock to the crowd and added that she got out as fast as she could.
Then I told him that Emily and I grew up in Kansas City. The bouncer and former Arena Football player, DevRon Johnson, told us that he went to college and played college ball in St. Joseph, Mo.
“Missouri Western?” I asked.
The answer was yes.
“Emily’s aunt teaches at Missouri Western,” I said.
“What was her name?” DevRon asked.
“Beverly Payne,” I replied.
“Dr. Payne was my advisor,” DevRon said.
So, there you have it. I had been in a bar in Las Vegas for 10 minutes, and the dancer on the stage next to us was from Lubbock, and the bouncer had my wife’s aunt as an advisor more than 1,300 miles away.
And they say “It’s a small world” is a Disney song.

That’s quite a story to fabricate just to have an excuse to post a pic of you and a random guy!
Tim, alas, but the story is true. I know DevRon well from his days at Missouri Western. I agree with Sam, it’s a small world afterall!
So don’t get wicked drunk and do stupid stuff in faraway places. You might just know that person.
